Investment Attraction Strategy

AsiaAustralis was engaged by the RDA Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island (RDAHC) to prepare a South East Asian Investment Attraction Strategy for the region. The objective of this project is to develop an Investment Attraction Strategy for RDAHC with a specific focus on the following markets:

  • Malaysia

  • Singapore

  • Indonesia

  • India

  • Thailand

  • Vietnam

The Strategy was developed to prioritise the above markets by industry based on an assessment of the following key issues:

  • Prioritisation of the nominated countries for future investment attraction activities

  • Incorporating priority industry sectors for the sub-regions of the RDA (i.e. Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island) and,

  • Recommended target in-country corporates and other organisations for implementation of the Investment Attraction Strategy.


North Tasmanian Development
Asian Engagement Strategy

AsiaAustralis was engaged by Northern Tasmania Development to prepare an Northern Tasmania Asian Engagement Strategy for the region. The specific objectives of this initial preparatory investigation were to:

  • Establish a clear Asia Engagement Vision for the Region

  • Focus on Asian engagement initiatives that will have economic benefit as its central focus

  • Provide clarity for all Project Partners on the role that it can practically play and should play with regard to building beneficial relationships with Asia

  • Provide a robust and evidence based assessment of Northern Tasmania’s relative competitive position in relation to the attractiveness of our trading opportunities to specific Asian markets. As part of this process and where data is available the competitive offerings of sub-regions (LGA’s or Sectorial Clusters) should also be assessed

  • Identification of key economic objectives and associated strategies based on Northern Tasmania’s strengths and opportunity for regional growth around priority industry sectors, and outline opportunities for exporting, investment attraction, potential joint ventures, and supporting infrastructure

  • Inclusion of a regional collaboration model to ensure that all Project Partners, private sector enterprises and in particular Tasmanian Government agencies, share relevant information on Asia engagement activities. The inclusion of a collaborative model will support the development of successful trading relationships, ensure the best utilisation of financial and human resources and eliminate waste and duplication of effort

  • Provision of a strategy and action implementation plan.


Potatoes SA
Malaysia and Thailand Potato Export Strategy

AsiaAustralis was engaged to build upon existing market knowledge and undertake further research and prepare an Export Strategy for South Australian fresh and seed potatoes with a focus on Malaysia and Thailand, but not excluding other potential markets.

key issues

  1. Australia (and South Australia) price point for supply of fresh and seed potato into ASEAN and specifically Malaysia and Thailand.

  2. The impact of the supply window, into the key markets in Malaysia and Thailand, including identification and and strategy for key competitor producers.

  3. Quality, surety of supply and market support are critical attributes to sustaining current, and building future, market share.

  4. Developing the key strategy for growing market share.


Northern Territory Government
Office of Asian Engagement

 

AsiaAustralis has been engaged by the Northern Territory Office of Asian Engagement, Trade and Investment to undertake Preliminary Scoping for a Supply Chain Study between BIMP-EAGA and the Northern Territory. This Supply Chain Study benchmarked current goods and their supply channels from/to BIMP-EAGA to/from Australia, identifying potential efficiencies and identifies potential opportunities for increasing trade in goods and services. The study Scope of Works includes:

  • Review existing supply chain studies undertaken on BIMP-EAGA, including World Bank, Asian Development Bank, BIMP-EAGA Secretariat and other relevant sources.

  • Analysis of the internal and external trade profiles of the BIMP countries and the NT showing current and potential complementarity.

  • Identification of existing regional supply chains and products (and potentially services) being exported by BIMP-EAGA into Australia, including at least: product, volume, value, method of transportation, port of embarkation, port of disembarkation, final destination, market access considerations.

  • Identification of existing supply chains and product (and potentially services) being exported by the Northern Territory, South Australia and the remainder of Australia into BIMP-EAGA.

  • Identification of existing products from BIMP-EAGA into Australia and potentially beyond (i.e. to New Zealand and Pacific Islands) that could benefit from supply chain improvements, via entry through the Port of Darwin and the Darwin to Adelaide railway.

  • Identification of existing products from the Northern Territory, South Australia and the remainder of Australia and potentially beyond into BIMP-EAGA that could benefit from supply chain improvements, via exit through the Port of Darwin and the Darwin to Adelaide railway.

  • Identification of products (and potentially services) and opportunities for the establishment of new supply chains between BIMP-EAGA and the Northern Territory, South Australia and the remainder of Australia.

  • Identification of product (and potentially services) complementarities between BIMP-EAGA and the NT where BIMP-EAGA-NT collaboration could be fostered to establish potential new third party markets.

  • Assessment of the potential for increased inter-regional trade and associated shipping links e.g. between Oceania and North Asia via Southeast Asian ports , following the implementation of regional FTAs, to increase shipping linkages between the NT and BIMP-EAGA and thereby enable possible new supply chains.

Asia Australis engaged in the production of an ASEAN Aerospace Alliance Market Intelligence Report; Market assessment and development of value chain opportunities for the South Australian defence and aerospace sectors in India and South East Asia and North East Asia. This project included:

  • Extensive stakeholder engagement with major industry actors in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia, India, Japan, and South Korea, including government agencies, industry regulators, automotive manufacturers, defence manufacturers, construction companies and contracting supply companies.

  • Stakeholder engagement was analysed in conjunction with regulatory review of market conditions for Australian companies in the two respective markets, incorporating formal government regulation, informal government regulation, and the potential impact of regional and bi-lateral free trade agreements.

  • Commercial strategic directions and future recommendations were developed to inform future stages of access to these markets for both the South Australian Government and South Australian Defence and Aerospace manufactures.

Business Development Project

AsiaAustralis was engaged by the Department of State Growth to develop an India Trade Mission Business Development Project. This Project identified the strategic project and business opportunities where the Tasmanian Government can sustainably grow revenue from the Indian market. This research established tangible business and government linkages in preparation for the India Trade Mission in September 2016.  The India Trade Mission Business Development Project included:

  • Analysis of existing trade history and market structure between India and Tasmania.

  • Developing trade and investment profiles of the Indian markets (may include sourcing trade data, interviews with key stakeholders, identifying and pursuing in-market information sources).

  • Identifying and mapping existing linkages and/or relationships between Tasmania and target trade markets, including via local, state and commonwealth governments (e.g. the Hobart City Council, Sister City Agreements, Sister State Agreements, International Office locations, Austrade engagement etc.) and industry groups.

  • Overview of the jurisdiction including population, affluence, economic drivers, higher education landscape, relevant local infrastructure, government priorities and future trends.

Wine Market research and strategy development; Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and China. The specific characteristics of this report were to:

  • Identify the market capacity of six major markets; Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and China.

  • Identify the wine consumption preferences for specific markets in order to identify which markets that your wines are best suited to entering.(tasting notes, strong selling styles etc).

  • Identify like for like wines already selling in market (Australian, NZ, South African, New World Wines), in order to assist with positioning and market selling point.

  • Audit the effectiveness of exiting import agreements (sales expectations, distribution, performance etc)

  • Develop a priority plan for specific markets, market entry method, and the importers and distributors to meet for follow up meetings.

China Investment Attraction Program

AsiaAustralis was engaged to research and prepare an Investment Attraction Program ahead of IASA’s trade mission to China in April 2016. The specific objectives of this initial preparatory investigation were to:

  • Develop an investment profile of the China market (including sourcing Investment data, interviews with key stakeholders, identifying and pursuing in-market information sources).

  • Undertake advanced In-market research in Hong Kong and Shanghai in March in preparation for the April visit.

  • Better understand the trade and investment opportunities available in George Town and how to leverage Adelaide’s economic drivers such as education, health and professional services.

  • Better understand the capability of the Adelaide City Council and its businesses to supply markets in George Town.

  • Improve the awareness and export readiness of Adelaide City Council firms in relation to the opportunities identified in George Town.

Analysis of the trade and investment opportunities between South Australia and Indonesia, across multiple industry sectors, and specifically incorporating the strengths of the South Australian economy to further develop the objectives of the South Australian Strategic Plan.

  • Strategic commercial review of the strengths and weaknesses of the Indonesian economy and how that aligns with the strengths of the South Australian economy.

  • Conduct of an economic needs analysis of the Indonesian economy, and assess the capacity for the South Australian economy to meet the requisite demand.

  • Conduct commercial review of the opportunities to attract both inward and outward investment outcomes for the South Australian economy, which would benefit South Australia.
